Diefenbaker School Visit
We met with 6 classes ranging from K-2 at Diefenbaker Elementary to promote active learning and reading in the community. This marks our last school visit for the 2015/2016 school year!
We opened up our minds, and the pages of our book, and started our adventure once again…
After an interactive reading of “The Rainbow Garden is My Friend”, we held a discussion on fears and courage, and the components of a short story.
We asked open-ended questions:
What makes a short story fun to read?
What kind of characters do you like to see?
What are your favourite books so far and why?
The students were a creative bunch with many projects in the works:
Short stories
Songs and poetry
Making and playing musical instruments
Rapping (?!) and writing about life (it’s not easy being in Gr.2)
Wow, so many ideas stirring up at Diefenbaker!
Keep going—don’t give up!
Thank you to the staff and students for such a warm welcome.
P.S. We were delighted to discover that Diefenbaker students have their very own “Rainbow Garden” growing in the school’s garden :)
