Storybook Adventures Spring 2017

Springtime was a wonderful time for the Storybook Adventures program at Thompson Community Centre. We had a very big class this session with 9 enthusiastic students!

Our program is centred around creativity and literacy. The purpose of this program is to transition from storytelling in a picture format to a combination of pictures and text. The writing aspect can be intimidating for young students but we make sure to take it one step at a time. At this point we are not striving for perfection, but rather encouraging curiosity and interest in writing.

We always start the program by covering the basics of a story - characters, setting, and plot. We also brainstorm a scene for a story together as a group, and students have a choice to use that scene, or a scene of their own, to create their storybook!

We're all about fun, sharing, and learning! Our students did a fantastic job of creating their own storybooks and shared them with an audience filled with family and friends on the last day of class. Way to go!

Free Spirit Books will be taking short break from Storybook Adventures this summer. We will be back at Thompson Community Centre in November. Please check with the City of Richmond Program registration in the fall and come join us!
