Brighouse Library Visit

Stories are everywhere—but are we taking the time to listen?

We were invited to host a workshop at Brighouse Library. The workshop itself was based on "Storytelling". We wanted students to engage in their own storytelling, as well as foster their listening skills when listening to their peers.

It takes the right combination of people having the courage to share, and an audience who is willing to listen and ask the right questions, for genuine storytelling to take place. In a world where efficiency, technology, and an overall sense of urgency is taking over, perhaps it is becoming more difficult for people to sit down, focus, share, and listen.

Our workshop stressed the importance of mindful face-to-face communication and encouraged students to take part. In pairs, students learned to communicate with understanding and patience. At the end of the workshop, students practised their public speaking skills by sharing what they had learned about their new friend/partner with the group.

We will be back for an extended workshop at Richmond Public Library in the summer—stay tuned!
